Tony Gilroy has released the official trailer for Behemoth!, his first feature film in 14 years. The drama stars Pedro Pascal as cellist Alex Serian, who returns to Los Angeles to score motion pictures.
The film uses a nonlinear, music-led structure where musical cues trigger memories spanning 20 years in Serian's life. It intercuts between live orchestral performances and his real life, with the score functioning as an active narrative device rather than passive accompaniment.
Gilroy assembled nine composers to score fictional movies within the story. Michael Giacchino, Alan Silvestri, James Newton Howard, Michael Abels, Henry Jackman, Emily Bear, Lukas Frank, Nami Melumad, and Brandon Roberts each contributed original compositions.
The ensemble cast includes Olivia Wilde, Eva Victor, Alexa Swinton, Will Arnett, and Matthew Lillard. The project premiered at the New York Film Festival and arrives in theaters December 4. Gilroy's last feature was 2012's The Bourne Legacy, though he directed the series Andor between feature films.
