Ryuichi Sakamoto, a leading Japanese musician, documented the world through photography during the 1980s. An exhibition titled "PHOTO RYUICHI SAKAMOTO" presents these images for the first time, running from October 17 through November 8 at SAI in Jingumae, Tokyo.
While maintaining his music career in the 1980s, Sakamoto simultaneously pursued photography as an artistic practice. The exhibition displays photographs he captured during his travels, featuring landscapes, portraits of people, and scenes from daily life. The work offers viewers access to Sakamoto's personal visual perspective from that decade.
Polaroid, headquartered in the Netherlands, sponsors the exhibition. The show marks a formal presentation of Sakamoto's photographic work from this formative period in his career, revealing a lesser-known facet of his artistic output alongside his established reputation in music.
